Ingredients

  • 1 lb cranberries fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 + 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice fresh squeezed
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 orange zest from 1 orange
  • 1-2 tbsp bourbon to taste
  • Pinch salt

Method

  1. Zest the orange first, then juice it. Set zest and juice aside.
  2. In a saucepan, combine cranberries, brown sugar, white sugar, orange juice, water, zest, and salt. Heat over medium-high until boiling.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and simmer 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon bourbon and simmer 1–2 minutes. Add more to taste if desired.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Sauce will thicken significantly as it cools.

Notes

Add extra sugar for a sweeter sauce. For stronger bourbon flavor, add a splash off the heat. Sauce keeps 7–10 days refrigerated.
