If you've been following my journey, you know I'm obsessed with finding ways to turn basic morning routines into macro-friendly powerhouses. First, it was the Whole Orange Mini Bundt Cakes, and now, I'm putting that same “whole fruit” philosophy into your morning mug.

This Whole is a game-changer. By blending a whole, peeled orange with and hot coffee, you get a creamy, frothy, citrus-infused drink that tastes like a melted creamsicle but packs serious protein and a caffeine kick. It's the perfect way to get your vitamins and your caffeine fix in one 30-second blender hack.

If you love the creamy texture of in your breakfast but want something more traditional, you have to try my Peppermint Cottage Cheese Muffins or the Protein Cottage Cheese Blueberry Muffins.

Why You'll Love This Drink

  • High Protein: Thanks to the cottage cheese, you're looking at about 15–20g of protein in your morning coffee.
  • Whole Food Vitamin C: Using the whole orange (not just juice) keeps the fiber intact and gives you a bright, fresh flavor.
  • No Creamer Needed: The blended cottage cheese acts as a rich, savory-sweet creamer that froths up beautifully.
  • Morning Energy: You get the metabolic spark from the caffeine combined with the slow-digesting protein to keep you full until .

The Secret Tool: Why the Ninja Nutri-Blender is Key

To turn cottage cheese and a whole into a silky, barista-quality latte, you need a high-speed motor. I've tried making this in a standard countertop blender, and it just doesn't get the same “micro-foam” texture.

I like the Ninja Nutri-Blender Plus. Because the blending cup is smaller, it forces the orange and cottage cheese directly into the blades, ensuring there are zero curds left behind. If you're serious about or my Ultra Simple Cranberry Protein Muffins, this is the one tool that stays on my counter 24/7. It's powerful enough to pulverize orange pith and ice, which is essential for that “Creamsicle” mouthfeel.

Why Blend Cottage Cheese and Orange?

If you're skeptical about putting cheese in your coffee, I get it. But think of it this way: Cottage cheese is essentially a deconstructed, creamer. When blended at high speeds, the curds disappear, leaving behind a thick, salty-sweet liquid that cuts the acidity of the coffee perfectly. Combined with the natural oils and Vitamin C from a fresh orange, you're creating a functional beverage that supports:

  1. Muscle Retention: 25g of slow-digesting casein protein.
  2. Immune Support: 100% of your daily Vitamin C from the whole fruit.
  3. Metabolic Health: The combination of caffeine and protein helps prevent the “sugar crash” often associated with flavored lattes.

Instructions

1. Prep the Orange

3. The Emulsion

Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until the mixture is frothy, creamy, and a pale orange color.

4. Serve

Pour into a large glass. If you used hot coffee, it will have a beautiful latte foam. If you used cold brew, pour it over ice for a refreshing “Orange Coffee Spritz.”

Troubleshooting & Tips

  • Bitter Aftertaste: This usually comes from the orange pith or seeds. Make sure to deseed the orange before blending!
  • Curdling: If using hot coffee, add the cottage cheese and orange to the blender first, start blending, and then slowly pour the coffee in while the motor is running. This “tempers” the mixture so the cheese stays smooth.
  • Sweetener Choice: Vanilla or Simple Syrup sugar-free pumps work best here to complement the citrus.

The video shows orange with peel and all, but the recipe says to peel it. Which way is correct?

Thank you for the comment. The recipe has been corrected. I used the entire orange but you can peel some of it or all of it if you want it to be less bitter!
